Mitzi is originally from Lakewood, OH, but spent her teenage years in Kingwood, WV. She received her undergraduate degree in English at the College of William & Mary in Virginia and her Masters in English at West Virginia University.
Her shift from teaching English to research began at the University of Minnesota, where she became an animal care technician for Research Animal Resources and then a mouse colony manager for the Blazar Lab. Mitzi joined the Modiano Lab in 2008 as its sample collection coordinator and mouse colony manager, and she has since maintained the lab's sample inventories and assisted with in vivo experiments and clinical trials, such as the Shine On study for early detection of hemangiosarcoma. Her degrees in English come in handy when she is called upon to assist with copy editing research papers for publication.
Mitzi's interests include studying Spanish, knitting, and exploring the many local parks in her neighborhood. She is also a dedicated cat servant to Manny, a handsome tuxedo boy, and Trixie, a wee beauty of a dilute calico.
